Did you know?

Your baby’s delicate skin is still developing and maturing during the first year. While their skin adjusts to the environment outside the womb, it may need special care and attention.

SPRING AND SUMMER TIPS

Longer days means more time outdoors. But before you head out to the park or take a trip to the beach, be prepared to keep your baby’s skin healthy and protected.

Throw some shade
Your baby’s skin is very sensitive, so it needs extra protection from the sun’s intense rays—even when it’s cloudy.

  • Keep them out of direct sunlight as much as possible, especially at midday
  • Dress to protect with items like wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeves, and a cute pair of shades
  • For infants older than 6 months, use baby sunscreen and reapply every few hours. For younger babies, consult with your pediatrician about the use of sunscreen

Keep cool
Dress them in light, loose clothing to give their little bodies room to breathe.

Keep them dry
Excessive moisture can lead to dry, irritated skin, even in warm weather. Salt water and chlorinated water are major culprits. If you notice your baby’s skin becoming dry and irritated:

FALL AND WINTER TIPS

Whether you’re excited for the fall harvest or already looking ahead to snowy days, you can get ahead of cold-weather skin issues. Follow these tips to keep your baby’s skin looking its healthy best.

Bundle up!
Dress your little one in layers so that you can add or remove clothes as necessary. A general rule of thumb is to dress them in one to two more layers than you yourself are wearing.
Protect exposed skin
Wind and cold can irritate exposed skin. Apply a layer of Aquaphor® Baby Healing Ointmentto your baby’s cheeks and nose to keep their delicate skin from getting chapped.
Reintroduce humidity
Your home’s heating system can dry out the air which can also dry out your baby’s skin. A cool mist humidifier helps replace moisture and increase overall humidity.
